01/16/11: Dreadmill

5 miles on the treadmill.

Usually when I use the words 5 miles and treadmill in the same sentence, it makes me cringe.

5 miles, running in place? Shoot me now.

But it actually felt pretty good. It's the first run I've had in a while that felt good while I was running.

I mean, it always feels good after I've run....and it always feels good to BE running.....but it's not very often the running feels good. Does that make sense?

I felt coordinated. I felt like I could have run much faster and much further.

I always hear people talk about coming back from a run and saying they could have kept going...but I've never felt that.

But today I did!

We got to the gym about noon (or so). I gave Mot (hubby) the quick 10 cent tour, then while he was taking advantage of the pool and sauna, I took advantage of the treadmill.

I had an audio book on my phone, and the time went by really, really quickly.

Hallelujah!!

He came up to check on me after about 30 minutes and said "I was in the zone" when he arrived.

Nej: "I look zoned out?"

Mot: "No, not zoned out....but your face is all business. You weren't focusing on running, but you weren't spaced out either."

Nej: "My face was all business? Do I look mean when I run?"

Mot: "Well...yeah, kinda."

Nej" "I don't want to look mean when I run."

Mot: "Yes you do."

Maybe he thinks if I look mean when I run, no one will mess with me. He gets nervous thinking about me running by myself in the mornings.

Either that or he just gets a kick out of the idea of me intimidating people.

Me? Intimidate?

Nope, not gonna happen. :-)

(5.01 miles, 10:11 avg pace, intervals of 2 min run/1 min walk)

The feeling of being able to run forever and not stop is out of this world. Glad that you found it. I have experienced in on more than one occasion on runs 18+ miles. It is insane.

The "Intimidator"! Good stuff.

@ C2Iowa - my longest run to date has been my half marathon, but now that I'll start training for a full this year, I'll be passing that by. I'm a mixture of excited, and terrified, of the idea. :-) :-)

@ Andrew - loading zone. Makes me think of Airplane.

"The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone."

"The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone."

"No, the white zone is for loading of passengers and there is no stopping in a RED zone."

"The red zone has always been for loading and unloading of passengers. There's never stopping in a white zone."

"Don't you tell me which zone is for loading, and which zone is for stopping!"

"Listen Betty, don't start up with your white zone shit again."

Great movie!!!! :-)

hahah that's a funny conversation. Glad you were able to enjoy something while passing time on the treadmill. I recently rigged myself with a little set-up too.

@ Heidi - rigged yourself something? Can't wait to hear about it!!!!!

I love those kind of runs. It's awesome to just feel like you can keep going forever. Of course, that only seems to happen to me on days when I need to be somewhere. Sometime I'd like to keep riding the wave until it ends.

@ MCM Mama - I either possess the will to push through the pain until I reach my scheduled distance.....or I have a way of knowing EXACTLY how much energy I have to use for my run. So the feeling of being able to (and wanting to) keep going was a nice change for sure!! :-)
