I have to get up HOW early???

I had my second Graston appointment yesterday afternoon. It hurt a little bit more than last week...but only because he had to go over the places that bruised last time.

Now I have two layers of bruising. Some that are going from purple to green.....and some new ones going from red to purple on top.

I'm like Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.....just without all the cool songs and costumes! :-)

Right after my appointment, my original physical therapist from this year wanted me to come talk to her. Apparently she'd been talking to my doc since I saw her last, and they had some "instructions" for me.

1) No hills.....none......zero elevation change......NO hills

Well hell....I live on a hill....in a hilly part of town. That means I either have to run around the block over and over, drive somewhere somewhat flat, or hit the (ugh) dreadmill.

2) No mileage. I did two miles on Tuesday, and the information literally made her eyebrows raise. I'm not to run more than 2 miles the next time I run either, even if it feels like I'm fine.

Crap! How the heck am I supposed to build mileage for my half in September if I'm running two miles at a time? I asked her about the 10% increase....and she begrudgingly said it was ok.

3) No running two days in a row. Period.

Sorry Mr. Higdon, but your half training plan I used last year is out. Out like popped collars and layering different colors of socks.

There you have it. I've been muzzled, so to speak. I'm on a leash, and it's a short one.

(sigh)

But.....on the brighter side....two miles at a time without pain is much better than no miles, or miles WITH pain. I'll take it.

Fow now. :-)

So....on to the title of my post today.

I got up early to workout. For the first time in what seems like months and months.

But it wasn't just "5:15- go run 4 miles" early. It was "4:30, because spin class starts at 5:15 and it's 30 minutes away" early.

4 flippin' 30.

Even our pup, Sam, wondered what the heck I was doing that early. (If you let her sleep in bed with you, she doesn't wake you up a million times in the middle of the night.)

:-)

I got to class at exactly 5:15...couldn't have timed it better if I'd tried.

55 minutes of spin.

Cycling just isn't my thing it seems. I mean, I can do it, but I just don't have as much fun as I do with running. There's just something about moving across the ground, without extra equipment. Just you and your shoes.

Maybe it's just because I'm afraid of falling off the darned thing.

(No, not the spin bike.)

Even though I've had a run-in with potholes, while running....on a bike, they seem even more dangerous.

Dealing with traffic while on a bike seems worse than when running as well.

I'm sure cyclists out there reading this are shaking their heads at me now. Maybe I just need a cycling mentor....or "cycling for dummies" support group? :-) :-) :-)

But anyway, back to the spin class this morning. I pushed myself.....but I didn't kill myself. I dripped with sweat, got my heart rate up, burned some calories, and am glad I got up for it.

That's what counts, right?

Plus, I get to run again tomorrow. I have THAT to look forward to!!!!!! :-)

55:48, 669 calories, avg hr 163, max hr 187

Yeah, that's early. I can do 5:30AM but 4:30AM is for vampires. I'm not shaking my head at you. My friends make fun of me because I don't like flying (safest mode of transportation?) but I can ride Bike (most dangerous mode?) all over the streets of DM.

Take is SLOW, my friend! I need you in working condition when I see you in two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!!

What was really funny, was that 4:30 really didn't hurt that much. (ask me how painful it was at about 3:00 this afternoon, when I'm drooling on my desk) LOL!

Yeah, getting up that early is not fun. I can do 5:30AM but 4:30 is just for vampires. As a cyclist I'm not shaking my head at you. My friends make fun of me because I don't like to fly (supposedly safer than driving) but I can get on Bike and ride the streets (probably the most dangerous mode of transportation).

Take it SLOW my friend. Listen to your doctors! See you SOON!!!

A spinning class at 5.15 am isn't possible here in Holland (for as far as I know). If a gym opens here at 6 am it's early and even at that time there are no group classes. Good job that you did a spinning class at that time!

Did you manage to stay awake LOL.
I find that when I'm used to getting up early for a workout it gets better during the day the longer you continue doing it. If you stop for a few weeks you have to start again by getting used to it.

2 miles is better than nothing and you should listen to the doctor :) You will get there, just be patient.

@ Fran - most gyms here at open 24 hours. But classes usually only run from 5 am to 8 or 9 pm at the most...nothing over night.

Getting up that early every day last year was fine...I didn't have an issue with it. So hopefully it will get easier as I get back into the swing of things. :-)
